Technology Transfer through Cyber Extension -- Helping Farmers to Help Themselves

3 “Technology transfer through cyber extension” is an outreach project being undertaken by the Department of Agricultural Extension, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (Pakistan) with the financial support of Endowment Fund Secretariat of the University. Directorate of Agriculture (Extension and Adaptive Research), Government of the Punjab Lahore is also a partner in this project.

2 The main objectives of the project are, to establish an online Agricultural information portal and Village Information Centers (VICs) for disseminating information at the grassroots level. The researchers of the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad and experts from the Agriculture Department Govt. of the Punjab can communicate with farmers and extension field staff in the pilot locations, in seconds rather than days. The information portal is available on the internet and farmers are also facilitated through a number of Village Information Centers (VICs) established in the selected villages. The operators at the VICs help in making the information centre usable by users who are unfamiliar to computers and illiterate.
